Greetings - Can anyone provide info about the JD model 894A hay rake. Just got one and it looks like the tongue may have been converted from a dolly wheel? Also wondering about parts. Rubber teeth are available, but what about bearings for wheels and rake bars? Rake seems very heavy on the tongue and there are obvious welds and extra metal where a homemade hitch was fashioned. Any tips or extra information will be appreciated. Father Cookie

It is a great rake. Only time the dolly wheel was used on the front as far as I know was if it was pulled by horses. Generally the lift is by hydraulic cylinder or had atchet type. Some(mine included) have been converted so they lift with 3 point hitch mounted to a bar between the lift arms. Rubber or metal teeth are available through Deere and others. Metal are cheaper but require a metal hold down. Rubber ones may be available from after market suppliers but be sure to get the right ones. Other bearings should still be available from deere, I replaced the bushings on the ends of the bars a few years back on mine and they were reasonably inexpensive. Also had to replace the drive shaft in gearbox and it wasn't cheap. I suggest getting an operator's manuel and parts book for it, I do for all my equipment and find it is well worth it especially when trying to figure out why something isn't working right.
