I was wandering if anyone had ever tried to make a self-propelled baler of any make/model. If you have ever done this, or know of someone that has, I would love to hear about it. Pro or Con.

Thanks, Barney

Do you mean pulling a baler behind the combine or mounting a baler on an old combine frame to make an SP baler?

I think it is Steffen Systems that takes Hesston 4590 balers and mounts them on a chassis similar to a New Idea Uni-System and sells them as SP balers. Is that similar to the concept you have?

Saw an article in the farmshow magazine where a farmer mounted a JD 327 baler on the back of his JD 7700. He used a large canvas to convey the crop into the baler. The guy said the baler limits the combines capacity. I would think a MF 300 would be too small to power both the baler and combine but I guess I don't know the size of a MF 10 baler either.

I've seen a lot of experimental setups in farm magazines, never in person tho.

Farm Shop is a magazine that has featured a few tries. They have a web page with back issues - or get the CD rom of several years of issues.

My understanding is that a lot of chaff & dust ends up in the bales, and it is very difficult to hook the two together so they turn & feed & power.

I think putting a small corn chopper blower on the back & blowing straw into a forage wagon works better, for those who collect soybean hulls.

There just was an article of someone putting a baler on the back of a combine, maybe the current Successful Farmer; Farm Journal? Can't remember, if I see it I'll let you know.
