I just purchased a 209 JD corn planter and would like any information in it that I can get.It of course is a 2 row planter but I'm missing the fetilizer hoppers and tubes that go with it. Could someone help me with the year of production, parts location, etc.? Would Jordes Decals carry the emblems for the planter?some of the original decals are still there and in good shape but not excellant.Should I get new or try and paint around the old ones? Thank You, Harold

I just ordered a parts book from JD for my 290 planter. There are many minor changes over the years so it's a good idea to have a parts book. Some of the planters have a serial number stamped on the right rear frame and some (like mine) don't. I don't know if there is a serial number list anywhere. The parts book shows "years used" for each part. By comparing what parts are on your planter you may be able to narrow it down to a range of years that it could have been built. As an example of my planter by checking part numbers of such items as wheel hubs, runners, gears, etc. I think my planter was made between 1958 and 1964.

By the way the 290 planters were made from 1941 to 1977. (yes that right, 1977)
