I found a NH 271 for sale. It is a wire tie(don't know anything about these) and was run with an engine. The engine is no longer there, so I would need to put a PTO on it. I have a Farmall M, would this have enough power to run it? He wants $300 for it, what areas of the baler should I look at to check for problems?

How much is it going to cost to get a PTO working?

Same thing as a NH 270, different hitch & extra pto joint is only difference - but then, you don't have any pto at all right now!

I guess just look for the usual wear - knotters, flywheel play, gearset, etc.

My 270 has been great, very dependable. These are from the slower days, not as much hay goes through them in an hour as the new ones, but plenty to keep a guy busy on the hayrack. :)
