Just purchased a John Deere #623 (I believe) which is stamped on the beam. The plow is on steel and has mechanical lift. I was wanting more information about this plow such as the year, parts, etc. I believe my plow had a mounted crazy wheel but I am unsure. Any information, comments, or suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

Andrew, look at the other beam, it likely has the number 583, these beams were used on the 4B plow (and 4A, 4C, and 4D) all of these plows used a rolling landside which is a fixed tail wheel that carries the back of the plow while plowing, and transports off the ground. Look at your lift clutch to see if it is the open or enclosed type. the rope on the open one fastens to a flat bar, the enclosed clutch uses a round rod to trip it. The enclosed clutch was adopted about 1940. Email me if you like and we can narrow the built year a bit nore.

Bob, sounds like the plow you identified for me last summer. Andrew, Bob will probably want to know the diameters of the wheels as well.

All John Deere plows had a tail wheel. But and I could be wrong, I think only John Deeres tail wheels were rigid. They did not turn from side to side, or earn the title crazy wheel. I never heard of a #623 JD, at least in a steel wheel
