I went with the ladyfriend down to thier family farm in Iowa for Christmas last Sat, and to my surprise, in an old shed sat a big old thresher(sp?) with the name Belle City on the side. Does anybody know anything about this brand of thresher where it was produced, etc.????

I spent a lot of time on a Belle City with a 28" cylinder in the early 50's. A local farmer owned one, he had no children, and hired me as the grease monkey. I had to crawl through the innards of the machine and grease the shakers at noon and do it all again in the morning before we started. Also carried gas for the tractor, and as I got more experience, he also trained me to build straw stacks. I put the belts on that machine every morning, took them all off in the evening when we finished for the day. I was 9 years old at the time and earned enough that first year (1951) to buy my first .22 rifle. Thanks for jogging an old and fond memory for me.

My grandpa had a Belle City. I have all the books from it.

Belle City Manufacturing Co. was in Racine, Wisconsin. It got it's start in 1882. At one time they made threshers for International Harvester Co.
They also made corn shellers. Called Joliet cylinder corn shellers.

They made vary good threshers. My grandpas was a 28x48 they also made 20x32 22x40 24x40
As a kid i played for hours on that thresher. Needing shed room, we sold it in 1978. Today i wish it was still in my shed as it was when i was a kid.

Helo JD, I see that you know something about Belle City threshers. My father is restoring a 22" cyl. machine, and I have been searching for weeks for an operators manual for it, with no luck, can't seem to find any info. on it, would you happen to know of anywhere for me to look? If you could help us that would be GREAT! You could e-mail me at [email protected] and my phone# is 785-665-7084 Thank-you

JD, what do the diminsions you list represent, inches, feet? My grandfather's thresher, (brand unknown), was about 4' wide, 6' tall and about 16' long.

The 28 is the cylinder. 28 inches wide. The 48 inches is the separator. 48 inches wide.
