Got a trip loader bucket on my farmal H and one of the cylinders squirts oil out the pipe plug (gots a hole drilled in it) when I lower the loader. Only one side does it. Somebody said the packing is bad in it. Is this a hard job to replace the packing in it and if so where would I find packing to do it? Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
Ray..

Do you have double acting cylinders used as single action? It sounds like the case. Is the hole you are losing oil out of at the end of the cylinder where the rod comes out of. This would be a vent plug placed in the hole where a second hydraulic line would go to give you down pressure. None of this makes much difference in the problem, you need to rebuild the cylinder, it does matter for parts. If you have a hydraulic shop nearby bring a cylinder to them and they can help. If you need to get by mail order, have brand name, cylinder bore diameter, rod diameter, and single or double acting. Doc

Since the H loaders usually use 1 way cylinders I would suspect the oil squirting out the breather plug would be from oig going by the cups in the cylinder. Have never worked on an IH loader but suspect the cylinders would be similar to others. As far as parts if they can not be gotten from IH (you didn't mention if was IH loader) I would think you could get them from a good hydraulics outlet. Should not be hard to get ram out of the cylinder to check on the cups and packing.
