i am looking for info on a model 74 massey mounted 3pt plow. it's a 4-16 (not 100% sure about furrow width at this time), wondering if it's maybe a 3/4-16, to reduce the draft load in sod. also it is cat 1, but would be interested in upgrading it to cat 2 to better match the tractors we have (656 farmall, 5000 ford). i should be able to find general setup instructions for a mounted plow on this site. any advice or other info would be appreciated! (would like to make sure it's all there too)

Plows are selling for iron around here. 3/14 plows fully mounted are still selling good. I've seen pull type plows bring more than semimounts. Could have bought aMoline 4/16 for $20 3months ago saw a 4/18 IH 710 bring $50 and a 1350 5/16 Deerer bring $50.

Are you sure this plow isn't a pieced together affair. I mean a larger plow made from 2 smaller plows. Hard to imagion a 4 bottom plow with Cat 1 hitch. I have seen this before and often one of the bottoms may be an odd one. I would have a hard time warming up to a 4 bottom plow cat 1. Used plows especially 3,4,5 and 6 bottom plows are cheap. May as well shop for what you want.

Neighbors had an MF plow bought new as a 4-14", Cat I. They traded it after 1 year on a 3-14", which was a better match for the soil conditions and the tractor (MF 165). I'd like to know where plows are cheap. Not where I live. A good 5-16" auto-reset will still fetch $1500. A good 3-14" safety trip 3-point will get $500.

Been into several discussions on forums, in our area SW Ontario as well as many other areas across North America 4 bottom mounted or seni-mounted are going for $400. to $800. Here in Ontario I am talking Canadian dollars. I looked briefly at an IH 4x14 semi-mount in real good shape $400. I saw another in paper same plow same price. Just about anywhere farmers are doing a lot of no-till planting plows are cheap. 3-4 furrow trailers will go for $250- $300.

plows ain't cheap around here in central minnesota. semi-mount IH are at least $2500 for one in marginalcondition (every thing works but parts show wear)
we have a 3-18 ih 710, but cant utilize upper link draft control on the ford 5000 with that plow.

I hadn't heard about issues with draft control. I can't use a model 74 M-F 3-16" plow on a Ford 801? The draft control function won't work? Why wouldn't that plow but another plow would? What plows are compatible with the Ford draft control function?

Thanks!
