Can any one post a picture of a Ford 540 baler, what is the weight of this baler? Are they worth much? Were they a good baler, fair or poor? Should I look for another brand to use behind my Ford 8N?
Thanks for any help

i have worked behind several brands of balers. the main difference i can tell besides shear pins and slip clutches is how they are maintained!!! i had a john deere 14 T that could tell you the time of day and moisture of the hay by the way the shear bolts would shear!!worn out parts, improper adjustment, and too high of ground speed will make any brand of baler look bad. i think the newer ones that were designed for higher capacity will handle the faster ground speeds of the old 4 gear 1950 s tractors and be more forgiving of slugs, or moving faster.plus the bigger windrows. you might find a way to hang some weights on the 8n. i used a wd allis on my 14 T till i bought a d 17.and old balers were not designed to take a 9'or larger cut of hay. there are plenty of balers out there. most overpriced for their age ,condition . remember more farmers are quitting the business than getting into it

i would recommend you look for a new holland baler with an engine on the baler. because without live pto its hard to bale with an 8-N. YOU WILL HAVE BETTER LUCK WITH THIS COMBINATION.IVE TRIED BOTH WAYS. LEW.

What he is saying is that when it has a bale or two in the chamber, the value goes up.

You are not going to want a high capacity baler behind that. Don't know anything about ford, was told parts hard come by,but don't know this to be fact. I do know where their is a old international baler 37 for sale. It baled last summer and worked okay. I know parts are still available too. He asking $1100.00 obo

I'm working on a 542 Ford. So far the only parts I've bought have been plunger rollers. I got them from the New Holland dealer. Came in New Holland boxes.

Thanks all for your imput. I am incuraged to hear that it will run longenough to make one or two bales. Is that one or two days worth of baling? Frank
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
