There is a JD 3 point field cultivator that I think is 15 or 20 ft and a 10 or 12 ft JD disc for sale. The man wants $1300 for both. Is this a good price? The disc isnt a heavy one and doesnt have a cylinder. The field cultivator is a 3 point model and has 2 small springs at the top of each tine and a normal sweep at the bottom. Someone told me that these didnt do as good a job as the new ones is this true ? What size tractor is needed to pull this type of equipment? Thanks in advance.

Jim, Sounds high to me! Bought a 12 ft Graham-
Hoeme, drag type for $100. only needed 2 tires
and a set of new chiesel points. Also found a 12 ft. Krause tandem disk for $100 also it needed
$250 of repair. That is here in Texas. Look
around see what else is out there!!
There is good equipment out there , you just need to sniff them out.
Good luck!

A 10 ft. JD wheel disk like a model 115, will bring $1200 by itself where I live in New Jersey. An older one, like an RW, in good shape, will bring $600-700. A 15' 3-pt field cultivator might bring $200, but if it was a pull-type, closer to $1000, assuming it was a newer model with some trash clearance. I bought a 15' Glencoe pull-type a couple years ago for $500.

It depends very much where you are located. 'Here' that would be a bit high but not too bad, a good 12-16' wheel disk with hyd lift goes $400-500, and a 1100 JD field cultivator goes for $400-500. I'm not sure if you are describing an older yet field cultivator? They sometimes work more like a side rake collecting trash...

Now, where you live that might be right, as there might be more demand for such implements. And he is just leaving room for some negociating maybe. :) I'd check over the disk for bearings, good blades & all, those parts add up real quick. Real, real quick. And if it's an older disk with the pipe & chain frame, those aren't as well liked here.

Takes 85 hp for a 15' field cultivator, 135 hp for a 22' field cultivator in my sticky, clay, tight soils. Can do it with a bit less, but it's no fun & hard on the tractor. Nicer to drive faster & have some power left for the tough spots.
