Hi Everybody! I happened to need some parts today and i found an old N/H baler. it's a model 77 with a v-4 WI engine on it!? looks to be complete from what I could tell, and does'nt look like it's been sitting ther too awful long. Just wondering if it would be worth dragging it home an making a down time project out of it ???? Any info on it would be appreceiated. Thanx... joe

Don L. Canvas cover? I have a canvas cover made by my better half by using the orginal cover (badly mouse eaten!) taken apart and used as a pattern. But it is only for the engine. Are you talking about a cover for the whole machine? Mine is a Model 80 which is the wire tie version of the 77. Love baling with the beast. Dick Davis

I dont know why. I get a warm a fuzzy feeling when ever any one talks about NH balers.
I must be catching some kinda bug for old balers, like the one a caught for old tractors.
I am really thinking about starting a section to my website for Photos of NH balers and some info on each.
I could start with my 68, could you send me some photos of your 77s ?
Any way it would be something to do to wile away the winter.

I agree with TP. However, it's your decision. Do you like equipment from the past? Will you mind that New Holland has discontinued parts? Do you have a place to store it? I hope you can buy it and restore it. I enjoy hearing stories of people keeping history alive. Steve

Our landlord had a 77 with a Wisconsin on it that we used for 5 years until we bought our 269 last fall. They had a auction to settle the estate and it was sold. To tell the truth, I really miss it! It was slow and old but would bale like H*ll for 1950's technology. My landlord was the original owner and took real good care of it, as did we. It was washed and coated with oil every year when put away and still had the original paint and decals when sold....It sold to an Amish guy for $200....He only wanted the engine so they sold the rest for $65! It is currently sitting outside about 20 miles away in a junk collectors yard..... It is sad to see it there, I should have bought it just to have kept it shedded and clean.

It was nothing for it to push out 200 bales in acouple of hours....made a long day. My neighbors said it best since they wanted to buy a 77 when they started farming but didn't have the money(and only large farmers could afford them)..... ."They were one H*LL of a hay baler in their day!!!"

If it was me that would be coming home!

Hi Joe,
Take a good look at the tooth bars in the pickup.
There is a cam roller on each end of each bar that runs in a track. Can be gotten at from underneath. Don't know if they are still available or not. Lots of work to change them but haying is awhile off. Make sure that the plunger latch mechanism works. Be careful cranking that beast. My father was nearly killed by a flying crank. Its right up in your face. Good luck, Ed
