Anyone have any opinions on whether the new holland sickles 451/456 cut better with the wider guards and removeable ledgers or the narrower guards which do not have replaceable ledgers?

steve from nh is right but you may wish to consider whattype of ground you have -if it is rocky you may want the streghth of the single point.also are easier to change if you break them often

James, I can help you on that one. Living here in Amish country, I have worked on those mowers for the past 26 years. If the hay crop is standing up nice and straight,(Of course it hardly ever is) I believe I would prefer the old fashioned wide guards with the serated cutting edge. However, in the real world where the hay is probably leaning or even down on the ground and tangled up, nothing works better than the narrow double pointed guards, part number 219190. Steve
