Larry,

What I do is when I go to a auction and one of those "yuppie farmers" buys a old drill to plant flowers in I offer to buy the drag chains and the tubes. Most of the time I can get them for a buck each. One time I lucked out and the guy only wanted the wood boxes to use as a flower box under his bay window. He payed around $175 for the drill. He was happy as a hog in mud when I offered him $50 for the rest of it. (Wish I came across them deals more often.)

My 2 bits worth,

Old Iron

I checked around a while back and looks like none of the dealers carry the old tubes. I just bought another grain drill for parts, lots of them are bought for the wheels and then scrapped.

I may have a couple around. I'll look. Deere sells rubber tubes now to convert the old drills with the spiral metal tubes. Good if you want to use the drill, bad if you want to restore the drill.

I agree with Tim, they are near impossible to find new. I have a jd DF-B drill and I had to replace 8 of the tubes and all I could find was the plastic tubes. They work great and I do use my drill so I am happy with that. If you want the real spiral tubes, a boneyard or buying a old drill may be the best. Good luck.

The $1.49 each for 5 gallon fuel can spouts from Autozone work fine for that.

I just cut both ends off so it's uniform sized and drill a hole for the catch pin on the top end.

Are you using them for the seed tubes or the grass seed? Would sound to me like the size for the grass seed.

I use them for everything but grass. I don't know what diameter my original flex metal tubes were but the plastic is a little bigger.

When I'm putting out grass seed I take the tubes off and broadcast with the drill.

They are (or were)available , though real pricey. A local short line dealer has 5 or 6 he ordered in for a customer who didn't pick them up. If you want, I can check it out and get back to you. We're in Ontario , but they were probably sourced in the States.
