I got a pretty nice 4 bottom plow given to me in september, it's JD, Has trip bottoms, and is semi-mounted. I think it's a 145, so I bought a manual for it. Are they good plows? I've used an IH vary-width (Model?) 5- bottom and like it. I'm only 15, so it's not very important yet. I just wonder...Where is the serial # plate? I looked in the manual, it told me where it is at, but I can't find it. May be It got removed. Wish I knew where to see another plow like mine to find the serial number on it. I really wanted to put it to use this year, But I was too shy to ask My Friend's grandpa If I could use it there, maybe next year. (I shouldn't be scared, we're like family, I Even call him grandpa, he grew up Just down the road from my Grandma). I'm sorry for rattling on and boring 'yall with my yappin', I just wondered if it's a good plow (It's in pretty good shape my friend's grandpa says, he helped me go get it)and WHERE IN THE WORLD IS THE SERIAL NUMBER? :-) Thanks all!

I have a F145H 3-16'' I bought it used 15 years ago. If they had a serial number the one on my plow is missing. The F145H or F145A have Safty-trip standards.

They also made the F135H and F135A They have stiff standards or shear-bolt standards.
If your plow is a F145H it was built from 1962 to 1969 if it's a F145A it was built from 1969 to 1978
They made them in 14'' or 16'' 3-4-5 and 6 bottom.

The serial number should be on a tag that is located on top of the main beam. We couldn't keep the rear lifting linkage together on our f145. It was a 6 x 16", and the lifting linkage was the same as a 4 x 16". Last time we replaced it, JD said they had discontinued some of those lifting parts.

I don't know where the S/N is on an F145, but it will do a good job, as long as you're not in long, tangled trash like unchopped cornstalks. F145s, like my IH 540, which is from the same era, do not have enough clearance to keep from plugging in the long stuff.
