Anyone on this board know anything about a New Holland 903 Swather? A neighbor of mine just drug one out of his shed the other day. He said its been sitting inside for 3 years without use. It looks to be in really good shape. Good tires, Paint is faded but good, no hour meter and the engine is free. What years were these made and what is a good offer to make on it. Thanks Josh

Josh, My dad has used 903-907 series swathers for the past 30 years. Seem to be pretty reliable swathers. The first 903 on the farm was purchased new about 1970. Uses a ford industrial engine, 172 CI. Uses a variable sheave driven belt to power to planetary gear boxes, one for each side. Both of his 903's have 10 foot auger headers. Using a conditioner definietly helps to speed up drying time, crimps the stems and fluffs up the windrow. I think that all parts are readily available yet. Good luck, Mike S.

I worked for the local JD/New Holland dealer when these were being made. Not sure What year the started but think a new model came out in about 1976. The 903 was a good machine but not real high production. I only saw them here with draper headers but they may have been available with augers also. They used a singel sickle instead of the double drive from each end like the 912. Believe the 903 was replaced by an 1103. They used a ford industrial engine and seemed pretty reliable. Steering was by variable belt pullies vs the hydrostats on the 912. Again they were not as heavy duty as some others but worked good as long as your hady was not too heavy. The conditioner used at the time was the "chevron type" which worked really well to crimp hay. Some guys here said you could bale a day earlier with the crimp they made as the hay dried faster. Good luck with it.
