What model? A 720 would bring $1000 in good shape, but this sounds like a much older deal, with no clearance. As the others say, about $150 would bring home a good one ready to hit the field 'here'. Missing parts, would be worth scrap iron.

I know of two IH 4x14 semi-mount plows, $400. Canadian each. They have both been beside road with for sale sign since June. Plows appear to be in good shape.

I think that 4 bottom, semi-integral (1960s vintage) plows, of ANY make would have to be in near perfect condition to bring $400. There are PLENTY of 4x14 and 4x16 plows out there, of whatever color you want, that "need" only a "little" work that sell for under $150.

Strangely enough, a TWO bottom plow, especially if it is 3point, and isn't Dearborn or Massey, tend to bring $400-500. You can plow gardens with them! Who "plows" real fields anymore?

You made mention of the Dearborn, what's the story on that. I have a two bottom three point mount, and was just curious about your remark. Are they worth less or what?

The DEARBORN equipment was made either by or for FORD. They are really common, sell for fairly low prices at auction, seem to be less stout than say a John Deere 412-415 plow, and as the DEARBORN plow is the factory matched plow for the N series FORDS, I really can't understand why they are less expensive. If you are wanting to have a restored N series FORD tractor, they'd make the perfect companion piece. There is an auctioneer here where I live who runs a "well used machinery" lot and auction, and he usually has 3-4 of the things in stock. They usually get bid up to about $100 or so, but I can't say if any of them ever "sell".

I plow real fields. No-till is a joke in our particular soil. Probably one of the few areas of the country where yields and returns on investment go down with zero tillage. . . .

You do? Great. Here in Iowa, the moldboard plow only sees action whenever it's hay ground that's needing to be planted to row crops. The chisel and no-till are king out here, and GOOD plows are literally dirt cheap!

Here in north central Texas, bout the only thing I see the "good plows" being used for is building up terraces every few years. Chisels and disks are the primary tools here. To much ground to cover in too short a time. I do believe it would do them good to deep turn those fields every 2 or 3 years though.

Over the past 40-45 yrs of farming , we've been told to park the moldboard plow in a fence row many times. Then for some strange reason , within 5 yrs., the same "experts" advise us to plow again! Never ,never overlook a deal on a good plow that has proven itself in your immediate area, you'll find it has been money well spent.

I agree with ya. I have a cousin that has a Sunflower chisel sitting in the trees, been there for at least 10 years. Going to try to talk to her about it here pretty quick. Needs some work but I would like to have it, don't have anything that would pull it but if its cheap enough, hey go for it, bigger tractor could be right around the corner too!
