Just a fast note to let everyone know what happened at the board meeting last night.

It got rather lively during citizen speak out time over the new ordinance issue. Someone in the crowd asked the mayor who requested the new ordinance. The mayor stated that I was the one who wanted it. I put the brakes on that one REAL QUICK when I began to read the response from the VILLAGE LAWYER where he stated that the VILLAGE SHOULD PASS a new ordinance to regulate farm equipment within the Village limits.

I also asked for clarification for the difference between what was "junk" and what was "antique" sence the cop was still calling my toys junk and the guy on the other side of the block who has gas pumps had antiques. The mayor said it wasn't a matter of it being junk or a antique but a matter of public safety sence older farm equipment was more dangerous with all the pinch points and sharp edges and he was afraid that the Village may also be held liable in a lawsuit.

Someone in the crowd asked how could the village be held liable when the items were on private property and a person would have to be trespassing in order to get hurt. The answer back was with folks suing everyone for everything now days the Village would still be named in a lawsuit sence they (the Village) knew the danger was present.

When it was all said and done the Village Board decided to send the proposed ordinance back to committee to be re-worked and to have it re-submitted to the Village Board at a later date.

I would like to thank everyone for their comments on my last post and I'll be sure to post updates as they happen.

I'll be back in 2 weeks. I have to head out and play G. I. Joe for the next 2 weeks down at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Howdy Don!

Long time no hear from you. How are things going up in your part of the country.

Wilber's station was sold about 2 months back to Phil Steinich. I was thinking of buying it but that crack in the back of the shop that ran from the roof to the floor scared me off. Phil got it for $20,000. Who knows, after he has it fixed up I might make him a offer for it.

Cambria should be happy I only have 3 things in town. I was thinking of filling up the back yard and setting up a free museum. I'm sure that would of rattled Chet, Dewey, and Rick the cop.

Have you had a chance to find those Case horse drawn parts? If you have give me a shout. I'll take a road trip up your way. I just picked up a Case horse drawn corn planter. Might be some parts in there I can use.

Tell Sandy howdy for me and have fun playing with your Case tractors.

Gene

And remember, "back to committee" really means "it didn't pass this time, maybe next time fewer citizens will show up to fight it".

Tom H,

I'm sure that's what the Village board is thinking but I don't think that tactic is going to work. In order for a proposed ordinance to become law they have to have 3 readings of it in 3 open meetings. They can waive the first 2 readings and go right to the 3rd but that would be suicide for them. Too many people are worked up over this. Alot of folks are concerned if they limit this what are they going to limit next. Besides, what else is their to do in Wisconsin during the winter except ice fishing, going to Packer games and fighting city hall. :-)

Damn! This is wisconsin? Soundslike New Jersey. Just the kind of garbage I'm trying to get away from. The argument that the town will be sued is fallacious at best. It assume that the township has the "duty" to regulate what people have on their property. Clearly, they don't. Cars Kill, Gas stoves explode! People fall and drown in bathtubs. People get electricuted. Where's the town? who's suing them there? Nope it's just another case of "we like to push you around while we steal your money!" (taxes) Kill a politician and go to heaven!
