I am going to plant about an acre of sweet corn next spring and would like a single planting unit. I an not in an area with row crops, only wheat and barley. Does anyone from WA know where I can find one.

Thanks,
Bob G

I know a man that just sold a two row planter and tractor - Farmall. I will try to find the planter if you are interested in a trip to South Texas.

I know I'm a long way from you, but I have 2 JD 1290 8 row planters that I would take $200 for both of them

Where are you located? I'm getting ready to cut up a JD 4 row planter. If you wanted to, I would make a heck of a deal on parts to make one. I think It's an old 494, not sure.

I am located in eastern Washington state about 60 miles south of Spokane. Just looking for a single unit.

International and Allis made a few popular corn planters that were driven by the press wheel. These are very easy to convert to a 1 or 2 row planter, just mount on a 3-point frame & start planting. I believe other colors made units like this also, but International are the most popular around here.

I understand you are not near a typical corn area, so it will be harder, but single units go for about $100, a 4-row planter under $500, sometimes well under. It might be worth your time to search for these. A new 1-2 row planter is over a grand or 2, some of the old ones are pretty spendy from a collector's point of view. Just an option. Find a 4 row, build several, resell & make your money back & then some.

People also modify other plantes, such as the JD 494 series or even 7000 series, but this requires a drive system on it of some sort.

Quite often you can get single row units from scrap yards when they are parting out planters. Many of the Deere and Kinze units just bolt to a tool bar so quite easy to mount.

I don't know if you are interested in 2-row planters, but there are 2 on ebay. Check out auctions 1781440534 (pull type) and 1782800393 (3-point). These are both located in Kansas. Good luck.
