I am looking for mower conditioners that I can run with my 30 PTO h.p tractor. I've heard that a 7' is suited to the smaller hp tractors. There's a Hesston PT-7 advertised for $650, supposedly new sickle and guards. A Hesston 1190 (did they come as 7'- I looked at this one- looks well kept, seemed like a 7') for $1500, or a Ford 537 (is this a 7'-the ad said it is)for $1100. Any input as far as what to look for, which to avoid, other comments would be much appreciated. The above prices are NW Oregon prices.

Thanks, Kenneth

One of the first things to look at is availability of parts, ie what are the best dealers in your area. I farmed for 25 years, had a lot of equipment. Nothing worse than getting a piece of equipment and having to go a 100 miles for parts.

In forage and haying equipment in my area it was New Holland and Heston even though they pulled them with IH, JD, Ford, etc. tractors. That alone tells you a lot. I remember in the 70's New Holland dealership comming up for grabs. The established tractor dealers were all after it.
