Greetings: I have acqurired a Ford loader which has been left in the weather for some indeterminate period. To external inspection it appears to be in generally good health, but the filler cap is missing and the oil return tube left open so I know crap is inside. Is there some means by which I can/should flush this thing out??

thanks for any experience you can relate.
kevin

Locate the drain plug at the lowest point of the frame and drain it all out. Flush it out with solvent or diesel. Then do it again. Then some more. Then flush it with hydraulic fluid to get rid of the solvent. You want NO contaminants in the system! Very hard on hydraulics. Then you should remove the open lines and do the same thing.Don't try to flush the cylinders and pump installed. Take them off and clean them up individually.
Do not move the cylinders (extend or retract)or turn the pump until you have fresh hyd fluid to them. Dirt and water are a hydraulic systems mortal enemys!!! Swear at whoever left the cap off and the hoses unplugged!

Yeah, thats what I was afraid of. I was just sizing it up today figuring how hard it would be to get the cyls. off to flush 'em and how to pump kerosine thru the frame. I got a hyd. pump from some other loader and a mouse (I suppose) had used it as corn storage. As bad as all that is, I still guess it's a better deal than a new one, or trying to build one.

tnx
