I just bought a 1940 (?) JD 4 wheeled rubber tire trailer. It has square end (hub/bearing) caps. I tried to loosen them with a 36 inch pipe wrench, the tires just spun. Do the caps have threads on them, (right or left hand) or do they knock off?

Are there bearings inside, or is there some type of wear sleeve? I don't want to tear it up to find out....

Thanks, D Bennett

You will have to restrain the inside portion of the hub or weigh the trailer down enough to get the outer hub off. On my JD trailers they are threaded outer hubs. Sometimes hard to get loosened up the first time off. Inside is the spindle end nut held on by a cotter pin. Also inside the hub are the inner and outer wheel bearings and the oil seal. Hubs on mine are standard right hand threads.
