I have a IH burr mill thats in great shape and would like to grind some corn for a few hogs and calves. None of my tractors have a belt pulley on them . I thought about attatching a pto shaft to the pulley end but it looks like it will turn the mill backwards. Short of getting another tractor any ideas ? --kms

I have a John Deere hammer mill and I'm not sure if this is what you call a burr mill, but it is setup to run off an electric motor. It's rated to run at 3450 rpm's and the information I have is that is that it can be operated with a 1 1/2 hp motor connected to run direct drive with no pulleys and belts. krum

If you want to establish any other power source you need to know the fpm that the burr mill pulley operates on, then through extrapulation you can determine proper pto speed that you need. If you need to change shaft direction you could do that with a right angle gearbox that allows placing one gear on either side of the other one, which would change rotation.

I have a Letz burr mill that I hooked a 3hp motor from an old feed bunk up to via a 28" pulley. I bolted the pully to the side of the pully for the belt so it would be simple to return to original. And it works great.
