Why plow uphill?

When moldboard plowing I have often heard to throw the furrows uphill. Why? I have done both and with sod you really have to move to throw the furrow uphill. Thanks.

I'm guessing it has to do with soil conservation. The plowed soil is going to be washed downhill, so throwing it uphill a little each time you plow can't hurt.

Depending on the steepness of the hill the potential of rolling the tractor over with one wheel down in the furrow is alot greater.
