An offset disc is on that simply has two straight gangs of discs that are set at an angle to each other. From the top, an offset's gangs make a ">". On the other hand, a tandem has gangs that form an "X" when looking from the top of the disk. An offset will have a front row of gangs that throw the dirt one direction and the rear gang throws it back the other way. An offset is used more as a primary tillage tool while a tandem is used as a smoothing/leveling tool. Offsets pull much harder than tandems since they "bite" down into the soil more than do tandems.
