Can anyone tell me what the lever is that is back just above where the cutter bar starts? It is not attached to anything. I'm just curious about it. I have not been able to find any picts that show in any details about the mower.

Thanks,
Bob

Bob, The little lever is supposed to be connected to linkage that tilts the cutter bar to get a better cut in different crops. There should be a quadrant with about 8 or 10 notches for a dog on the lever to stop in. #5 owners manuals are plentiful used as well as new available from John Deere and that, or a parts catalog will give you a good picture of what it should look like

There is another lever near the cutter bar(bolted on the A frame) that is used to hold the mower up when it is off the tractor. It keeps the frame up by holding the frame up on one side and touching near the cutter bar on a round piece of steel. It has a lever and a piece of steel bolted to it, the piece of steel has a curved "Y" end.
