I am helping out family in converting some farm ground into usefull ball field etc.. (flat yard) it is now loose dirt (disc 2 times) and still has many humps and low spots, what should be used to get it level fast, I know it is a loaded question but the advice would be very helpful, I have a ford 800, 8 foot fergie disc, gill box scraper and landscape blade, is there another tool implement etc...??? Thanks to all who reply btw: the ground is generally flat and no rocks etc...

That's exactly what your box blade is made for. Especially if the dirt is loose, just remove the scarifiers if you have them and set your 3ph to hold the box about 1" off level ground and drive around. The box will fill with dirt from the high spots and dump it in the low spots.

I thought the box blade would do that too, the idea is to just set it and leave it at that heighth while you make several passes? thanks for your reply

That's correct, Rob. You may have to experiment on the hieght adjustment, depending on how rough your terrain is, just don't let it follow the contours. As the tractor hits a highspot, the boxblade will follow and remove material, when it hits a low, it will dump some. You may have to lift occasionally to dump when it gets too full, just do it in a low spot. Just keep driving around and, before you know it, no more highs and lows. Then you can drag it with a piece of weighted chainlink fence or something similar to get it perfectly smooth.

I cleared 20 acres, pulled the stumps and after I got everything picked up I used two sections of railroad iron 16 feet long and pulled them behind my JD mod A. I chained the two pieces together about 4 feet apart one in front of the other. Then hooked them to the draw bar on the ol A with another chain. They were heavy enough that they leveled off the high spots and pulled enough dirt to fill in the low spots. Anyway when I got all done the ground looked as smooth as a pool table. Good luck

I have access to some structural angle iron and some fence scrap I could make a drag out of.
Thanks for the info

I have done the same thing before with a short section of chain link fence with weight on it. Takes a while but works unless you have a lot of clods and loose turf.

After you get the ground loosened up, take a harrow section and put some wheel weights or something heavy on it and run over the ground several times. This will level the ground as well as anything. Good Luck

Call your local chapter of the Antique Caterpillar Club, and ask about a playday at your site. They'll get it done for you.
