PLowed some ground with moldboard, good cover, disced it several times, spring tooth harrowed it and I cannot get the grass clumps out the dirt is well pulverized now but the grass clumps keeps the disc from penetrating all the time and the harrow gets clogged up with grass, should I set my disc gangs straight and try that or what do I need to do? I am running late to get some grass planted before frost which down here is about 2or 3 months away. HELP

Ill tell you what. Set your plow to go down around 4-5 in and you wont see those grass clods and your disc or harrow wont find them either. Im 56 oct 8 and ive farmed since 69 and Ive never had that problem, Now of course your lucky, I was going to say youd need a pretty good tractor to pull that deep in grass ground. I use my 37 F-30 Farmall and it does the trick, but since youve probably gone down 1/2 that distance ( I hope) then it wouldnt be so hard to get down to the rest of the distance. Good luck

I had similar problem a few years back. You could try cultipactor to set sod chunks firm, then disc. My biggest improvement was when I realized that my front worn knotched discs (16") should be the same diameter as the smooth rear (20"). try to replace even number on each side (maybe 1/2 if funds tight) What a difference!

how long did u leave the ground plowed before u disc it, u should at least wait about a week or 2 then disc it, this way it allows for the clumps to rott, and loosen up a bit, but now just to like burrhead said, and keep discing, but u must rememeber not to disc the dirt into a powder, casue when it rains the dirt will pack not allowing the seeds to push threw. good luck

Leave the angle in and throw more weight on top of the disc and haul buggy.

If it aint penetrating you just don't have enuff weight on the disc.

You just keep going over them clods til it gives. You might want to hang a spiked drag board behind the disc.

You'll know when you get finished-all the clods will be busted.

What part of E Tex?? I'm 1/2 way between Beaumont and Houston back off in the rice fields. You can't be a yuppie. Yuppies in E Tex is too busy dodging log trucks to give advice on balers.

Hey Burrhead,

Do you ever see any Case LAs sitting around out there. I am near Houston, always looking for a new treasure.
Thanks,
Robert

Naw all the old Case are gone from here now.

I know where 2 of them are but love nor money could buy them. The brothers that own them inherited them when their Pappy passed on.

Yeah, I have found some of those sentimental ones too. I think it is great that people keep their old stuff like that, I just hate to see one sit in the mud and rot, so I keep trying. If you do spot LA or 500 anywhere, please keep me in mind. Next time you're going to be passing Columbus on a weekend, give me a heads up and you can stop by to see my museum (first time I've used that word to describe it, my wife uses other words).

No, I am south of Columbus, off of CR 106. My friends say you have to want to go there to find me, but they are kind of yuppie and don't get out much. Do you remember where on 36 you saw them? I looked at a pretty interesting 900B south of Alvin. It was set up for rice, had the biggest steel rears I have ever seen except for steamers.

I asked my son if he remembered where they were.

He said we were about 10-15 miles north of Columbus on Hwy 71 going toward LaGrange. I thought we were on 36 just north of Columbus.
