Would like to know how to operate a corn binder and if it can be set to put 10 stalks in a bundle? We have to make 852 bundles of corn stalks and we have a corn binder but do not know how to use it. It has be in the barn all its life so it is in good condition. All we need is some help.

To set the tension that the other poster talks about- on an IH binder there is a cast arm that catches the stalks after they are cut- there should be a slotted area or several holes in the arm- hey, can't remember, its been 40 years, but you set the arm there according to how big a bundle you want to make- just like on a grain binder. Check for something like that on whatever binder you have. Works on volume- not number of stalks.

Size of bundle depends on tension of trip mechanism. Number of stalks in the bundle would vary depending on size/weight of stalks needed to trip the tieing mechanism. Tension can be adjusted to make different size bundles.
