Well I went back out in the heat and goofed with the knotters some more. There is no "wiper" that I can see on this design. The knot just gets pulled off the bill hook by the bale moving down the chute.

I removed both twine disc/bill hook assemblies and set them on a bench side by side, trying to find a difference. I tried to sharpen the right knife (the side giving me problems) but it only seemed I was making in duller so I quit.

So I decided to give them a pep talk. "C'mon guys! A baler is only as strong as it's weakest knot. There's no "I" in team! Let's get out there and tie 'em up!" Then I slapped them both on the rump and sent them back in the game. Oh I did swap knives from one side to the other just for fun.

What do you know. It tied perfect three times in a row! Power of positive reinforcement. I know it can't last, but it's too hot to play with it anymore. We'll see what happens when there's real hay to bale in about 2 weeks.

It may last, after all. Many years ago I broke the rivet that holds the "hook" on the "billhook" on an old Ford baler. It was Sunday afternoon, with no hope of getting the part, so just for the halibut I put on an old pair of billhooks I found in the toolbox. They were so well used that they had a groove worn in them where the twine lays across. I baled the rest of the day without a miss, and those old billhooks were still on the baler when I gave it to a neighbor 5 years later.

Jim,

From your posts..... ....the reflection I see is 'me' some 8 - 9 years ago. The heat I understand.....but do ya got them p/u headlights and them pesky mosquitoes up there messing with ya?? while you're trying to convince your customer, "I can get it working again!!" and ain't got a clue as to what is wrong!!

So long as you're still working on it..... ...you're still in the game cause -- it ain't beat ya yet!!

Square Baler Knotters -- YES!! I believe in magic.....don't you??

e-mail on the way.....I know ya got a camera...send me a picture of them massey knotters, have'nt found one around here I can 'look' at yet. Curiosity is about to get me!!

Remember back when I was trying to get the feeder forks to flex on my 542, with Jerry D's help??

The pics were with a camera a buddy had let me have as a 'hand me down" (that the daughter had clamed as 'hers') as he had gotten a new camera and it was given to him by another fellow that was fortunate enough to be able to 'upgrade'.....had a 100' ext. chord hooked to it to make it work off of the ac adapter.....

'Only' problem was -- I had it "stretched" out just as the wife hollered at me - not to step - on the 'cat'..... .....

ever try to 'zero' in on problem spot, when ya ain't got enough slack to reach it, when a 'cat runs 'tween ya legs & the wife is hollern?????

Dropped that camera!!!!! !!

Digital cameras ain't meant to be dropped!!

SuperGlue to the rescue!!

Still works, (lucky me, so my daughter says!) -- but so does that plastic..... ....!!!!! ! Sony - with a rechargeable battery..... ..

Jim,

Congrats. I bet you've got it going. One I worked on was obviously older. Sorry ab out the miss info.

When I was fresh out of highschool, I ran a massey # 12 ( I think ) for a neighbor. Did a good job baleing.
