Just picked up a baler pto driven I think it's a model 68. Overall condition looks good, knoters look good. What should I watch for when I get it home? Any tips will be helpful.

Great balers, but I agree with Tom - get a book, i think I have one , turn it over a few times, trip the knotters and watch the needles are timed and adjusted correctly before spinning with the tractor. Bill hook cogs wear quite readily and need regular replacement. There are a hundred and one things that can be minutely wrong with the machine and cause baling/tying problems - but that is balers. Give us an email if you ever need any ideas. I have a NH Hayliner 78 , bales about 10000 bales a year.

Don't even think of running it until you've read the operator's manual! I did just that, and cost myself $100s in a few moments, because of a minor timing adjustment.

You can buy old manuals from New Holland for a reasonable price. Call their pubs folks at: 800-635-4913. Then read the book, check the machine over with it, and turn it over a couple of times by hand before you even hitch it to a tractor!
