Jerry D,

Know the 'value' of a 'junker'. Only know of 2 (a 532 & a 542) in this part of the world. The owner of the 532 didn't want to sell, but did talk him out of a bottom hay dog that I was needing, finally got by to get it today. The 542 is 'another'story.

Question is.....while I was salvaging the hay dog, took a look at the feeder forks chain on the 532, thinking maybe I could also talk him out of a good 'complete' chain. Was sort of surprised to see that is was the same way my 542 is. Reckon what the reason/odds for 2 different balers being short chained the same? vs the manual??

I would go find that gentleman's wife and buy it from her. LOL Loved the story.

As for the chain, I bet you have the same problem I did. There was one person that was the "expert?" on these balers at the dealership and was sent to school. He would do all of the assembly and adjustments. Here that one technician cost Ford any market share they might have had a chance at. I bet he could not get them lined up like the book showed and yet again decided to redesign the product and cut the chains down. If the book is wrong like it is on the 530 then you have to be paying attention to get them 180 degrees out of phase.

Go see if that other 542 is still there and offer to get it out of the way for him. One question, did he intentionally nail the tree or did he hit the tree and claim that the baler had died anyhow?
