Got a new sickle mower about a month or so ago. Italian made Tonutti. Really used it for the first time in hay today. I mowed a spot in front of my house (about 3 acres) just to try it out. That's the only other time it's been used. I really like that thing. Mowed for about two and a half hours this afternoon and covered a good bit of ground. Really good hay also. I've got a neighbor who's mower broke down on him and he's in a tight for hay. Offered to help him out. After I finished and wouldn't accept payment, he told me he was taking me to dinner this weekend. Anyway, this is the first time I've cut hay in about 20 years. Baled some but not cut. I really enjoyed it. Can't wait till next time.
Take care everyone.

watching the grass fall behind a sickle mower is such a rush! grandfather told me long ago when he used to mow with a horse drawn sickle and would almost become hynotised by the steady sound of the sickle mowing. be safe!

Mccormick Deering horse drawn mowers claimed something like. " Mower runs so quite that you can hear the bumble bee rise out of the ground and fly to the rump of the off side horse before he stings em!"
