Thanks, guys, for your informing and insightful replies regarding the JD 800 swather. I decided that to borrow a trailer to haul a machine 50 miles with a 12 foot header wasn't all that practical, even though the price was right, and it ran like a kitten ($450.00). Not to mention that all my shop storage is only 11' wide!! I figure that with a 3 pt., pitmanless sickle, I can hook it to the tractor, drive on our 6.5'X 20' gooseneck, and haul the rig most anywhere I would want to mow. My only question (I have read lots about this mower and sickles in general in the archives..neat feature) is , will this mower work with the standard Cat. 1 3pt on my Kubota L3450, or is it specific to Ford/NH tractors? I really appreciate the sharing people on this board. Thanks again, Kenneth in OR

I hooked a 451 mower up to a Kubota 6800(#?) in May--thought I never would get it right! Finally, did! NH dealers in central NC didn't have nor seem to know about the kit that Dave M told me about. I ended up cutting a Ford type stabilizer in thirds, used the two pieces with the original holes with long top-link bolt and washers at the back hole on the top of the telescoping brace (same place the front of the top link mounts on the mower), drilled additional holes for the front hole of the telescoping brace, and holes to match the usual place for the top link to fit on the tractor. The two pieces wedged out from the tractor mounting point on each side of the other mounting holes on the mower. I used a large bolt, washers, and locknuts to give some rigidity to the contraption. When the top of the right hand telescoping 1" rod and it's roll pin still scratch the paint off the RH leveling box, I shifted the pins on stay bars on the Kubota, slightly off center to give me the needed additional clearance. I was used to using this mower on an Oliver 550 and thought it would hook right up to the Kubota--what a surprise!!! But after all the figuring, I did mow several acres of hay.

The NH 451 will work with a category 1 three point hitch. I bought mine new and have used it for years. It is a rock solid, faithful, machine. Easy to mount, understand, and operate. Would recommend one highly to anyone.

It isn't the cat I that causes trouble. It is the geometry and dimensions of the draft links, width of the rockshaft, and location of the top link bracket on some cat I compacts that causes the difficulty, mainly the width of the rockshaft arms at the top of the lift links.

Rick, do you know how much the kit costs, and what the part number is? The New Holland dealer here in town didn't seem to know anything about such a kit... Thanks, Kenneth

I set one up on a Ford 1720 compact a couple weeks ago. As mentioned, there is a kit available to facilitate attachment to compacts. The sales guy was sharp enough to order the kit when the mower was ordered, but the kit hasn't shown up yet. I was able to hook the mower to the 1720, but couldn't quite reach the desired frame height without the kit. I would suspect your results to be similar.

I don't know about your Kubota but I bought one and it hooked up to my allis D15 and works great. If there was ever a 3 point that wasn't standard I think it is on my D15. I think it should work. It does hook up kind of funny as there is a bracket that hooks to tractor top link and the top link attaches to that and the mower.

It won't work on your Kubota, unless you
buy NH's kit for compact tractors. Or you can also
make it with some steel flatbar that goes in your
toplink hole to extend the yoke from between your
lift arms. I have seen it done by our local NH dealer. I gave some guy the NH part # for the kit
a while back on here. search the archives for it.
