I've got some acreage to clear and I am starting to shop around for a PTO driven chipper. Got a catalog from Bearcat so far. What brands do people recommend? Do you recommend the extra cost of a hydraulic feeder?

I JUST PURCHASED A BEARCAT 73454 PTO DDRIVEN 3 POINT CHIPPER AT AN OUTDOOR POWER SHOW IN LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY. I ACTUALLY PICKED IT UP AT JOHN DEERE IN INDY, THEY WERE THE LOCAL DISTRIBUTOR. I HAVE NOT USED IT YET, BUT I DID PICK IT UP AND SPUN THE ROTOR WITH MY 1950 FORD 8N JUST TO MAKE SURE IT WOULD WORK WITH MY CONFIGURATION. HAVE BEARCAT SEND YOU A VIDEO OF THEIR PRODUCTS. I PAID $2700 FOR MINE AS A DEMO FROM THE SHOW. ANY QUESTIONS LET ME KNOW. PHILIP

I have a bearcat chipper and am very pleased with it, doesn't have the hydrualic feed, it takes everything I feed it up to about 4" material shredder is rated up to 5" material, but I do not have big enough tractor to pull that much,(my 650 JD is only about 15 h.p.). Not only does the hydrualic feed take more money, it takes more horsepower to pull it. I have found that the first thing that always gives out with the shredder I have is the operator! Takes a lot of work to keep shredder supplied with material. Pile the brush and move the shredder(3pt hitch) to it. I am very pleased with the Bobcat shredder I have. The only advice I would offer is that it is better to buy too heavy duty a unit than to buy a light duty one. Gene Davis

I have a PATU DC40. No hydraulic feed. If the knives are sharp, and the gap is set correctly, it'll feed itself. No more brush than I chip, I couldn't justify the extra expense.
