Can someone tell me when these were made? I have one with tag Lot No PM 69. What color should these be? I have a green one and a red one that I bought this weekend. I haven't hauled the green one home yet. I've greased up the red one and got it working pretty good other than the need for new cutter blades. How do I adjust the blades to be in the center of the guide at full extension? I had a broken driver bar (wood) and I guestimated the length. Is that the only method or is there a slide somewhere I don't see? I'm going to shoot for a manual this week...

Thanks,

Danny in SE Michigan

HI Danny

I have a book at the farm For # 30A, I'll have to look at it for settings , need to time My any way.

Wheels Orange

Top cover (flat on 30A and the new ones not sure of the number are square)( gaurd (SP))flat type was Zinc no paint, square I have seen them White and Orange.

The rest was green ( dark ).

You broke the Pitman Arm (wood bar). W20HS is the Part Number for 30A cost is around 10.00 or less at TSC ( Tractor Supply Co.)Douple check with the old one. Make sure it is bolted on good, you can brake it if too tight, or it will egg shape the holes and brake if too loose. Check offen.

Cutter Bar 28 teeth , with the last one with two tips to it .

If you got one with a little use , it will cut great, if it as allot of cutting behined it, better go over it well. No short cut with them.

I don't know all the part names but here it goes, I have a NI 30 (I believe it's the same model just older) it is dark green with orange wheels. Teeth adjustment is made with the length of the pittman arm (wood bar). The point of a tooth should travel the width between a pair of guards. If you look at the rear of the mower, the pittman will be connected to a rotating disk. When the connection's is at 3-o'clock the tooth should be at its furthest point out (directly under a guard). Rotate around to 9 o'clock and it should travel in to the next guard. Hope this helps.

The shields on the PTO shaft (on the 251 anyway) are also orange.

Thanks for the info. I'm not certain it is a 251, I got that from the picture in the Implement Photo's part.

As for the pitman arm, do I just drill new holes? Like I said, I made it myself using the broken one as a template. It is an oak slat from an old rope hay basket that I got at an auction! I just cut it, sliced it, and drilled it out. I'll see how far I need to move it.

Where would the appropriate model number be? I found the Lot Number tag easy enough. Now that I've greased it all up, it works much better. The chatter is down as well. Should there be 24 cutters on the bar?

The model number is on the lot number tag, just to the left of the lot number. New Idea uses "No." for "model number". A 251 should have 28 cutters on the bar.
