New Idea Crimper Question

I am in the process of replacing the roller bearings on my crimper (New Idea No. 750 lot H12A). I have found the removal of the old bearings to be almost impossible. I have distroy'd the two removed so far (metal roller). I have the numbers so getting replacements shouldn't be a problem. My question is should they be that tight? At this rate I will have to drive them on with a 20lb sledg hammer. The rubber roller apears to be in the same condition.

The old bearings were put on by Noah before he built the Ark, right? And they have been rusting ever since. I bet if you polish up the shaft and file out the big dings you put in while removing the old ones , the new ones will slide right on. Use a little oil.
