Last summer we went to the auction and purchased a MF # 10 Baler. We used it for only a short time and now it is time to start baling and we are having a problem. HELP!!!!

The problem that we are having is that it will only knot and tie on one side. I'm sure that it is only a minor adjustment, but just cant seem to find out just how to adjust it.

We call out a mechanic and he said that he had not worked on a baler that old and could not seem to find the problem. It cost us $200.00 and the problem is still not solved. So if any of you farmers have any information as to what we might be able to try We sure would appreciate it.

We had to borrow a baler to finish up with the hay
and in about 3 more weeks it will be time to do the other field. So please let us know.
Yours truly,
Gwen Smith

first of all i would tell the so called machanic to take a hike and learn something he knows how do to, thats is job to work on all types of equipment, no matter what the age.

there could be a number of things, get a manual u probably need a new bill or a new knotter, get the manual, sorry about your hay hope u can get it all up.

Like Tom says, you need the manual. There are 100 reasons it's not working, be really dumb luck for us to help you blind here....

Did you store the machine outside in the elements? Not good for a baler. Anything else that is different now from last time it worked? Did you try new twine, if a ball got wet or sun damage or rodent damage it will cause trouble. Just a couple thoughts. It doesn not have to be the knotter for sure - a broken spring can do it, etc.....

Gwen:

Buy the operator's manual. You can download it from the YT site for about $30 (go to top of this page, press "Manuals." Or you can order it from your MF dealer's parts guy for about $10, but you gotta wait about 3 weeks for it.

The book has detailed instructions, step by step, for timing and adjusting the baler. It isn't difficult, but will take you a full day the first time, if you don't need parts. Lots of reasons, big and small, why the knotter won't knot so i won't even hazard a guess. Get the book and go through it and you should have no problems.

good luck,
Tom
