I just purchased a Model 46 baler, serial #45949G. I would like to obtain a manual for this baler.. Could anyone give me any suggestions as where I can get one... And, if you have any comments on what to keep my eye on, quirks of the machine.....
Thanks,
Ken

My uncle has had one of these balers for about 15 years. Every baler he has owned has been IH. Don't get in a rush to haul tail and get done. If you get a lot of knots slipping, go down a gear or make smaller windrows. He used to like to go in 4L on an 856 and broke every 5th-6th bale. We now use an M in 1st or 2nd and it hasn't missed but 5 bales this season out of 500 or so bales. Gonna use it tomorow to bale some straw. Once you get the manual, study it good and learn all adjustments. A baler is one thing that really needs adjusted right or you end up with REALLY messed up bales. If you want to use this baler for more than one year, be SURE to store it inside. A tarp will help but inside storage is a LOT better. balers aren't worth a D*MN when they sit out. get all rusty and don't work right.

I borrowed my neighbor's IH47 because my MH124 broke a bill hook on the first bale of the year. It looked like it was ready to be thrown away, but it worked great. The only complaint the owner had was that the bale measuring wheel would sometimes slip causing it to make a really long bale once in awhile. I don't know if this is a common problem with these machines or just this one.

I had the measuring wheel problem on mine, so i did the following:
1) take wheel apart
2) fit some plastic pipe over centre
3) fit some hydraulic pipe over plastic pipe
4) refit and adjust stopper for correct length.

Some playing is required to get the wheel the correct distance out to ensure unit triggers ok when bale length reached.
I found this was easy to do with the unit running and no twine installed.

So far the hydraulic pipe has about 2000 bales on it, and still looks the same as it did when i fitted it.

Ken,

Sorry, can't help you with the manual but if you got that bailer at the auction over by Juneau, Wisconsin this past Saturday you got a good buy on it.

My 2 bits worth,

Old Iron

I got a manual for a 47 baler from CIH last year.
Suggest you try there first.

I got a manual for a 440 lock twist at my local Case IH dealer.
