This may not be the best place to post this question, but I couldn't find a "critters" board.

Rats have taken a liking to the battery box of my JD 1520. More than that, they seem to enjoy gnawing the wires off the back of the dash. I've had to re-wire everything twice now. If they get me again, I'm going to have to start replacing parts because there's not enough wire left to splice to.

Any ideas how to keep'em out?

I live by a river and raise Rabbits, Chickens and Pheasants, and as you can imagine there is a lot of extra feed hanging around. I went to a commercial Lawn Care Center and asked them what people around packing houses and resturaunts use, they sold me a 5 gal bucket of this stuff called Control. I think that's how it's spelled. Email me if you need the exact spelling. Anyway, it comes in squares with screw holes molded right into them so you can fasten it to the inside of a bait box and it can't be dragged out where the good animals can get it. Rat problem went away after aproximatly 10 days of feeding.

My cat would love for me to have a rodent problem with my tractor because that is when he likes to sleep.

Mothballs or d-Con works for me, and my rats!

Bryant,

Try some mothballs where they like to hang out. If that don't work, I'm sure they would enjoy some "snacks." :-)

Your John Deere dealer will sell you a product developed to keep rats/mice off of combines, I can't think of the commercial name. Just tell them what your problem is.

What do you suppose it costs to rewire a JD 9500 turbo combine with yield moniter and GPS?

Mr. Davis,

I have no idea how much that would run. That's too new of iron for me. The newest iron I own is a Massy Harris 50 Clipper combine. I use the mothballs in my grain drill boxes and on my grain binder aprons. I haven't had any more nests or holes in the canvas aprons sence.

My 2 bits worth,

Old Iron
