Is the 1209 a good machine? What should you check out on a used one? Any other brands just as good or better for about the same money? Thanks in advance for any response.

Be sure and check the bracket that the wobble box(knife gear box) is bolted to is not welded or cracked loose from frame. If it is walk away from it.

Mine sure likes to pick up rocks, get chipped sickles & bent guards. Also I hear the wobble box isn't the most durable out there.

But, it conditions hay well for me, other than rocks no problems in 3 years.

In our dairy country of central Wis. the 1209 as to durabilty had a poor reputation. Was not built good enough for our purposes. The next models were improved and were considered much better fomocos. You can't compare a case 555 with a 1209 their is at least 20 years difference in tech. jimg

Hi, I have a 1219, a newer version of the same machine and I like it very much. Bill

I have a 1209. It replaced a CASE 555, which is the same as a HESSTON PT10, and believe me, there is NO COMPARISON. The 1209 cuts just about everything with no complaints, and the CASE (HESSTON) clogged continuosly. While a PT10 type of machine is pretty old now, it wasn't when my father had it and it still was a poor machine by comparison to the 1209.

I have the 1207 and it cuts great. Mine has cut thick heavy Orchard grass and thick alfalfa as well as some very thin alfalfa (thanks to no rain). Has cut everything I have put it into with no question. I have limited experience with MoCo's but this machine seems to have a solid reputation and you will get several responses here. Like anything else how it was cared for and maintained will mean more than anything else. With that said don't let the question I am about to start a thread on bother you because mine is a "Care For" issue.
