Weather men suck. No possibility of rain for 5 days.....That was the forecast yesterday. Since I believed them I now have 10 acres of wet hay. Is there another job in the world that you can be right maybe 20% of the time and keep the job?

If I had some hay to cut, I'd do it just so it would rain. Guess the people in Texas got our share of it.

Not all of Texas got soaked with rain. I only recieved 4.4 inches and I am still having to water my lawn.

A friend of mine went fishing the other day. He said he caught two fish and both were carrying canteens.

Best thing I've bought in a long time is a tedder. Found a Kuhn for $100.00. In wet hay it will pick it up and fluff it, let's the hay dry. Also cuts drying time in good weather by about a day or maybe two. I mow with a haybine and crimp it good, tedd that afternoon or evening, tedd again about 10 or 11 the next day and can start baling about 1:30. A tedder will also tear a windrow apart if it gets rained on. Don't use it if the hay is real dry 'cuz you'll lose the leaf.

Thanks for the advice on tedders. I've always thought they would be an advantage, but I've never seen anyone in my area use one. Why? I have no idea. Seems to me that anything to speed drying time would be worthwhile (as you say, as long as you're not losing leaves.) I'm a nervous wreck between the time the hay's cut and when it's in the stack and covered. Even just lessening that time by one day would do much to lower my Valium bill! Thanks ... Cim.

I like the way they dance around, waving their hands, then they say THEY will deliver rain, sun, whatever. If you notice, on every Monday, they will predict rain for the weekend, with a voice like they are getting ready to cry, but by Thursday, they are taking credit for a sunny weekend, so the yuppies and such can go and enjoy there picnics, bike rides, etc. They are almost as goofy and airheaded as sportscasters.

My brother is a retired U.S. Air Force weatherman. He told me that, despite satellite photos, computer modeling, doppler radar, etc., etc., the chances of accurately predicting rainfall any more than 24 hours ahead are only a very slight bit better than you'd expect if you flipped a coin. (Heads, rain; tails, no rain.) In other words, this "extended 5-day forecast" stuff the TV weather goofs present is a buncha garbage. (Notice how it's always at the end of the forecast and they make you watch a whole set of commercials first before they present it?) Sorry about your hay ... know just how you feel. (Better luck with the next crop.)

I relate the weather predicting to the same way thermals work on a steep hillside. Equate sun-up to January. First sun the breeze is going down at a good constant pace with just a whiff of change to an updraft. Maybe it won't even get switched before fully before it's going down for quite a while again. As the day progresses the switches become more pronounced, last longer and are sooner coming. By 2:00 to 3:00pm it's almost all updraft with just fleeting downs. The storms are almost identical. January almost constant storm with fleeting sun. July/August it's almost all sun with an occasional storm. If it's been a week or more since the storm, you're ready for the next. The moving cloud picture on tv is the easiest way to beat the weatherpeople when couple with the "thermal therory". Oh, and yes, I've gotten wet hay 2 times already this year.LOL

There are two really good ways to make it rain. Wash your car/truck and cut hay.
