I am building a wooden farm wagon from the remains of several old wagons. I have two really nice iron wagon wheels. Problem is I need the axels for them and two more wheels to match and the axels for them. Does anyone know of a place that messes around with such wooden axel and iron wheeled wagon parts or salvage. Any help would be great. thanks.

Jon, I've seen some steel wheels that were direct replacements for the wooden wheels, meaning they would fit right on the axle spindle, but be warned, many makers of wagons used their own dimensions for the sleeve bearing with their own unique taper and length and diameter, its best to pair up wheels with the axle at point of sale, and try them on to be sure. If you can, find a whole wagon with all four hubs and spindles, even rotted down, doesn't hurt the iron any. John in Nebr.

I came up with the hubs for the two steel wheels I have. They fit and work good. I would like to make a four wheeled farm wagon but I am sure I will have trouble finding two mates for the two wheels I already have. As is looks now I may end up building a smaller two wheeled farm wagon. We (my father and I) farm with antique farm tractors and equiptment. It's not that we only do it for fun it's more because thats the only kind of stuff we have and it works. I am needing an all purpose wagon to searve as a small hay pickup wagon and fencing wagon. I figured since I have the two wheels I might as well make good use of them.

Now does anyone know of a source of pictures or plans for older farm wagons. I am pretty good at drawling stuff from scratch and building it but I like to study into the lost art of wagon making. "old school is always better". Thanks.

I have 25 or so Iron tires(guess tht's what you call them, form old wooden spoke wheel that were rotted down. Got lucky, guy who had let me have them for just hauling them off. They make perfect hoops for hanging Cast Iron wash pot in.

Where are you located? The best place to go would be an Amish community.
