Yrs ago on the farm we had a red ,I believe,MC brand flail chopper. It pulled/cut directly behind the tractor in about 6' swath.Unit was driven like a early hay conditioner from PTO,"A" shaped and about 10' to top of spout.Had a full width door in back about 3' above the flails that could be opened to drop the cuttings in a swath behind instead of blowing them up the spout into a box wagon or feeder wagon. I recall one neighbor having one also, but have never seen another.Always seemed to be a well built and good working unit....Anyone else remember these or the company that made them???

Got one. Use it to chop weeds, and even used it for hay when the baler broke, blew the dry hay up into a wagon, then hauled it up to barn and ran it up corn dump into big pile in hay mow. Worked great, but wouldnt want to do a lot that way.

Is there a MFG tag on yours anywhere,or is the company gone now like so many others. We used to use ours for clipping pasture,as a bush hog on fallow ground, mowing woodlot roads, chopping "green feed" and sweet souix into a feeder wagon, was a simple and useful machine.

It was Mathews Company. They still make rotary scythes for cutting hay (like the New Idea cut/ditioner) and flail mowers. I don't think they still make that green chopper anymore. However, Hiniker still makes the Brady flail chopper design, which was similar to the M-C unit in function and appearance.
