Y'all who replied to this post from last week...thanks for your replies. I did find a local source for #55 flat chain at about $22 per 10 ft. roll, but decided to try shortening the old one by one link first. With your suggestions, I was able to get it apart much more easily than I expected, remove the link and put it back together. Without removing a sprocket, I was able to get it back on with just light prying with a screwdriver, and the adjustment idler set up at about midway in its range. Looks like all went well. I'll be using it in a day or two, so left the guard off so I could check it out and make sure it was working properly.

Thanks for you5r advice and hints. Another lesson learned. Next time it will be a breeze!
