one of the knotters is tying half of the knot and it pulls apart. The baler was rebuilt two years ago. Made about 1000 bales with it. No problems last year. Made 400 bales this year and it just stopped tying the knot. any suggestions?

Try turning twine disc tension nut in a 1/4 turn. You might try different twine as this can cause a lot of problems if its irregular.

Make sure you are using 7200' length twine. I had the some of the same problems last year and was using 9000' length twine. Went to New Holland and explained the problem and instead of selling me a pair of knotters, they asked about the twine and told me that the older NH balers do much better with 7200' twine as it is thicker and the twine disc and knotters work better.

Per the NH "Knotter Service Chart":

No knot on the end of the twine held by the twine holder.

Cause: Not enough tension on twine holder spring;
Correction: Increase tension on twine holder spring by tightening adjusting bolt about 1/4 turn.

Cause: Baling too tight.
Correction: Release bale tension accordingly.

An operators manual for your machine is available for purchase from NH on-line. The knotter Service chart is extensive as are the possible problems and corrections.

If tightening the twine holder spring does not solve the problem, take the spring right off, polish it up around the bolthole, and look for cracks. My NH 269 was driving me crazy skipping bales, a new spring cured it completely.
