My brother just called to say he purchased a 58 F8 with dump body and needs me to haul it 100 miles to home farm. I can squeeze it on my trailer but does anyone know the weight empty? (the reg. lists 25000 GVW)
Thanks

My 1950 F-6 long wheelbase with flatbed weighs 7500 empty. I would expect a dump bed to weigh more, also would expect it to weigh more since it is an F800 (if it's a '58 its not an f-8, as that designation went away after 51 or 52) Probably be around 10,000 or so. BTW, if it runs and the brakes are serviceable, just drive it, I drove my F-6 home 75 miles, mostly freeway, but very heavy traffic. I had to stop halfway and re-fill the master cylinder, but otherwise it was a fun drive.

Recently bought a slightly newer Ford with dump, also about 100 miles from the ranch.

It ...just ... fit our trailer, and it was a 40 mph trip on quiet back roads to the ranch behind my 2500 Chevy.

It wasn't fun, but we made it fine, until I hooked the PTO pump on the trailer backing it off!

Best of luck - and be safe.

My experience with similar trucks leads me to believe the empty weight would be 9000-10,500 if it's a single rear axle. A tandem rear axle would probably add 2500-3000 pounds, maybe a little more more.

There are several discussion boards dedicated to Ford trucks at the site I have linked. Someone there may have the info.

Thank you all.....Age has its value. I have decided to haul it with a 9 ton trailer instead of "stuffing it" on a 6ton 16' which would have it fit only by 2" .....

As always this forum is a great source of friends
