Swather/Baler Question

Just wondering if there are any opinions out there on top serrated sickles -vs- bottom serrated sickles when cutting thick brome grass (I have heard that bottom serrated is the way to go on grass) Also, I recently purchased a NH 283 twine square baler and I'm wondering if I can run hay that has already been baled through it to test everything (If I unbale it and feed it through)

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the follow ups (Fudd can you check if you are running bottom serrated)
When I feed the hay through th baler should I lay it in a windrow and drive the baler through it or can I leave the baler in one place and hand feed it?

Thanks

Spreading the broken bales out and running over them is safer than hand feeding. If you do hand feed, be sure to block the tractor securely. The baler will make everything rock back and forth, and the brakes should not be trusted. Use a long handled fork, and don't forget about the PTO shaft. It doesn't look very close, but when you're concentrating on the action of the baler and staying clear of the pickup, it can sneak up on you. Use part throttle, as you don't need the power to move the tractor, and that way it won't trash around so much, either.

I can't remember which sections I use but they work great on grass. I can check if you like. Yes, you can run broken bales through your baler to test it but the bales won't be as good as normal. You can at least check the knotters.

I run bottom serrated on or PT10 ang mow some pretty rank bluegrass and reeds canary and have no problems. You can rebale hay just don't force too much in at one time as plunger will have to cut some flakes instead of just loose hay.
