Does anyone know how I can repair or replace the knives that shear the hay as it enters the bale chamber on my 520 baler. I have had no luck finding new knives.

Elton got a price on those knives the plunger knife is $95.22 and the stationary knife is $41.66. Both are still available and any Agco dealer should be able to order. If you have none close by reply back if you would like us to order for you. We ship UPS.

You can sharpen them by either cralling in rear of baler or taking the out and putting them on belt sander or manifold grinder.Set clearance at .010 to 030 when reasembling. There used to be and old machinest/welder in town that used to weld them up with hardsurface rod then grind them back down. I don't recomend this practice but it might be your only choice if you have machine shop that can do this. I work for AGCO dealer and will check to see if we can get knives and post back tommorow.

How do you adjust the knives for clearance?

I could not check availability on the knives yet the computer was down due to power outage will find out Monday. The knives have shims on the back sides of them to make sure they are square with the bale chamber. The plunger is what you adjust to set clearance. There are two styles. The first will have bearings mounted in the plunger that move up and down and sidways. These bearings have a rounded surface and if they are wore flat thay need to be replaced. If it is this style most likely it will be close when you put new bearings in. If not you will need to adjust bearings to get proper clearance. The other style will have slides that adjust on the bale chamber and you will have to move them up or down to set height. They will have adjustment bolts on the side to move rails in or out as needed.
