We started baling and the flywheel shear bolt
breaks after 5 bales, replace with NH bolt and it
happens again. Went thur the NH book and it all
looks right and everything checks out. Hay is dry,
backed off tension rails, timing is OK, knives are
sharp, rollers good, etc. It's stored outside and
worked fine when parked last fall. We can't seem
to find the problem and could use any help. Thanks

Had that problem on my Super 66. It was the pickup clutch on the bottom of the baler. It had rusted in place and would just shove hay in till the shear bolt broke. Fixed that and no more broken bolts.

Check the sleeve that the shear bolt goes through in the flywheel, ours got wore out a little and the extra play would shear bolts. The bushing is available through New Holland and it wasn't that expensive.

Check the plunger stop and make sure it is not partly hanging up and just catching the corner of the crank arm. Remove hay from baler and roll it over by hand and see when the plunger enters the bale chamber. It should enter just behind the face of the plunger. 3/4 inch is the proper setting . If it does not do this advance knotter stack to get this deminsion. This will give needles enough time to get out of the chamber before it shears bolts if the stop is not hanging up.

Check the knotter brake tension, plunger stop cable adjustment, and knotter shaft/needle bail home position adjustment. Probably a combo of the first two.

Thanks for the posts guys, I'll look at all those
ideas and double check everything else. This is
something I haven't seen before.
