Does anybody know what the torque needs to be on the bolts of a skid brake on a John Deere baler? I don't know if "skid brake" is the right term but its the brake that the PTO drive line goes into.

The SLIP-CLUTCH on JD balers is adjusted by measuring the spring length not bolt torque. On my 336 the measurment called for is 1-21/32 [42mm] if it still slips too much it can be tightened more, but not shorter than 1-19/32[40mm then you are supposed to replace the springs. You didn't say what model you have, but those figures would be a good place to start until you check with your JD dealer.

I don't know, but that's the question I'd ask.

Also make sure that each bolt is adjusted the same amount, and any changes are made equally on all bolts, to maintain equal pressure around the plates. Generally slip clutches should be adjusted to hold the load under average conditions, plus just a skooch more! Overtightening just breaks more parts.
